Born in Mumbai in 1928, Akbar Padamsee completed
his education at the Sir J J School of Arts in 1951, earning
a Diploma in Painting. Subsequently, he relocated to
France, where he commenced his artistic journey. In
1952, recognition came his way when Andre Breton,
representing the Journale d’Art, awarded him a prize.
The following year, Padamsee held his inaugural
solo exhibition at Galerie Saint Placide in Paris.

               Padamsee’s artistic endeavors were marked
by a pioneering spirit, leading him to explore
various mediums, ranging from oil on canvas to
               photography and digital printmaking. Regardless
of the medium, he consistently exhibited mastery
over space, form, and colour. While renowned for
his Grey Series, Metascapes, and Mirror Images,
Padamsee also ventured into film-making, sculpture,
               and art criticism.
