Illustrated are two views of the presented lot.
At once a visual and a spatial experience, Rana
Begum’s practice of minimum abstraction erases
the division between the painting, architecture,
and sculpture. Stimulated by the early traditional
Islamic repetitive geometric patterns as an
influence of urban landscape, the artist creates an
enigmatic interplay of light, colour and shapes on
surfaces. The changing sensation created by the
absorption and reflection of light as the viewers
move around the work leads them parallelly to a
spiritual and temporal experience.
