Born in Nagpur in 1980, Valay Shende is an eminent
sculptor and video artist who has made an indelible
mark in contemporary Indian art. He gained a
Diploma in Art Education in 2000 in Nagpur
and went on to receive a BFA in Sculpture from
the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai in 2004. His
               signature style utilises non-traditional materials,
               especially circular metal discs, painstakingly
amalgamated to signify that all creations of nature
are created through the collaboration of atoms.

He is endlessly inspired by his surroundings, nature
and the plight of the members of today’s highly
urbanised society, especially migrant workers. His Reverse view
keen observation skills reflect in his renditions of
various objects, people he sees in daily life, vehicles
and symbols. A large part of his early career was
dedicated to the everyday people of the country and
the trials and tribulations they face. The presented
lot is one such work, serving as an ode to children
often seen selling ephemera, such as balloons in this
               instance on the road.
