                  SYMBOLISM

Vasudeo S Gaitonde did not appreciate being branded as
an abstract painter. A philosopher, he was influenced by
the Zen school of Buddhism and translated his acquired
wisdom effortlessly. Gaitonde’s intended selfless generosity
of knowledge through his art transmutes within the viewer
and that is what makes his work so significant and relevant.
Gaitonde shunned the limelight and focused on conceiving
meditative non representational paintings. During the
1980s he met with an accident and found it challenging to
work with large canvases thereafter. This resulted in him
concentrating on works composed on a smaller scale, UNTITLED UNTITLED UNTITLED
