One of the few practising women artists of her era,
B Prabha’s distinctive style and emotive canvases firmly
established her as one of India’s foremost modern
artists. Born in a small village in Maharashtra in 1933,
she began her artistic journey at the Nagpur School of
Arts before advancing her education at the prestigious
Sir J J School of Art in Mumbai. Defying conventions, she
carved a niche for herself during a time when modernism
was striving to find its voice within the Indian context.
Unlike the Progressives, her artistic expression charted
its own course, embodying a style that was both unique
 and unwavering.
