UNTITLED Born in 1935 in Kolkata, Sakti Burman first studied paint-

Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and was award-
ed the Prix des Etrangers by this institution. In 1958, the
artist travelled to Italy and had an opportunity to see
the Italian frescoes of Giotto, Piero de la Francesca and
Simone Martini, which left a lasting impression on him.
Soon, the artist evolved his incredibly distinctive lexicon
with a confluence of pointillism and marbling technique
that rendered his compositions fresco-like surfaces.
Artist Sakti Burman has participated in numerous solo
exhibitions, and biennales throughout his career.
Through his work he brings to life the myths of fantasy
creatures, courtly romances, imagery of women riding
