Among Sakti Burman’s many inspirations, European
and Hindu mythos play a large role, as do his memories.
Much like his experiences of being a migrant, his
canvases are replete with a fusion of both Western and
Indian influences, creating a unique visual syntax that
is now synonymous with Burman. The animals, people,
objects and surroundings seem to be suspended in
time and have an ethereal quality to them. He also
has several recurring motifs in his works including an
interpretation of his son Nobu, depicted with a conch
               shell on his head.

Burman has exhibited works extensively around the
world and country including shows in New Delhi, Kolkata,
Chennai, New York, London and Paris among others. He
has also participated in multiple French Biennales in the
years 1963, 1965 and 1967. He was awarded the Prix des
               Etrangers award in 1956.
