One of the few practising women artists of her
time, artist B Prabha's distinctive style and emotive
canvases solidified her position as one of India's
               leading modern artists.
Born in a small village in Maharashtra in 1933, the
artist began her artistic career at the Nagpur School
of Arts, after which she pursued further education
at the illustrious Sir J J School of Art in Mumbai.
Breaking away from conventions, she made a
place for herself during a period when modernism
was contemplating its path to resonate with Indian
audiences. In contrast to the Progressives, her artistic
expression veered into new territory, establishing
               her unique and unwavering style.
