A PAIR OF LARGE IMARI JARS
This striking pair of large Imari jars are rendered in the traditional Imari palette.
The intricate central panels are adorned with detailed figures, while the side panels
showcase graceful birds amidst lush foliage. Each jar is crowned with a matching lid.
Imari porcelain originated in the early 17th century in Japan’s Arita region and
became highly sought after for its vibrant cobalt blue, iron red, and gold designs.

A BRONZE SCULPTURE
by Émile-André Boisseau
A large patinated bronze sculpture of a man
depicted with a sword and plough standing on a
bronze base. The sculpture features a title on the
base that reads - ‘‘Ense et Aratro (par l’Epée & par
la Cherrue)’ - translating to ‘With Sword and Plow’.
The sculpture depicts the common man, whose
instrument of choice in war is a sword, and a plow in
times of peace. Stamped with the mark ‘Societé Des
Bronzes De Paris’.
Sculptor Émile-André Boisseau was born in 1842
in Varzy and went on to create exquisite works in
marble and bronze. He studied at Ecole des Beaux-
Arts and regularly exhibited at the Salon.
