these scenes during his tenure in India, utilising his artistic
skills to create highly detailed and evocative images. Luard’s
military career included service as a Lieutenant at the Battle
of Waterloo and as a Captain during the siege of Bhurtpore in
1825, underlining his first-hand experience in historic military
engagements. Luard’s legacy is further cemented through this
and other works, such as his notable “History of the Dress of the
British Soldier”.
Bound in contemporary red calf gilt with spine gilt in
compartments and gilded edges. While foxing is evident on the
initial and sporadic pages, it remains a well-preserved copy.
