The presented lot by Jamini Roy shows his
deep inspiration from the traditional Indian
folk art. The artwork is a depiction of a mother
and child, a recurring theme in Roy’s oeuvre.
The figures are stylised with an emphasis on
bold outlines and a flat application of earthy
tones, reminiscent of natural dyes used in
folk traditions. The background is minimal,
drawing attention to the central figures, and
the colour palette—dominated by deep blues,
browns, and reds-adds emotive depth to
the composition.
