Tagore’s artistic journey began with doodles, where
he transformed crossed-out words and lines into
images that took on expressive and occasionally
grotesque forms, marking the inception of a unique
and imaginative visual language.
While best known as a poet and celebrated as the
first non-European to receive the Nobel Prize for
Literature in 1913, Tagore began painting relatively
late in life, in his sixties. His painting style was highly
distinctive, marked by bold, simple forms and a
rhythmic quality that later influenced numerous
modern Indian artists.
