PRESENTED LOT
The presented lot was painted in 1998 when Sabavala was reaching the threshold
of his sixth decade as an artist. In his signature style, it showcases a surreal, abstract
landscape. The composition is filled with geometric, layered forms in soft, muted
tones, giving the impression of mountains, water, and sky. The clouds are represented
as angular, floating shapes, mirroring the faceted look of the landscape below. This
approach creates a dreamlike quality. The colours used are delicate, with pastel shades
of lavender, blue, and green that blend harmoniously, suggesting a serene, almost
otherworldly atmosphere. Two small human figures on the left side add a sense of scale
and solitude, contrasting with the vastness and stillness of the scene. Sabavala’s style THE HOODED DAY OF CLOUD AND AIR II
