Lot No. 179 Born in Kolkata in 1930, Nikhil Biswas was
a founding member of the Calcutta Painters
Group, Chitrangshu Group, and the Society of
NIKHIL BISWAS Contemporary Artists, Calcutta.
1930-1966 After receiving his diploma from the Government

UNTITLED College of Arts and Crafts, Calcutta, in 1954,
42.5 x 116 in (108 x 294.6 cm) Biswas worked as an illustrator for Bengali
Ink on paper pasted on canvas weeklies Darpan and Janasebak Saptahik,
Signed: Bottom Left seeking significant images to express the
political and social upheaval of his time.

Despite a very short life span, the artist produced

white drawings on paper. His paintings were
exhibited posthumously in Germany and are
now part of the permanent collection at the
Halle Museum in Dresden, Germany.
