Husain is famous for his experiments with various
mediums throughout his career. Besides his usual
works utilising canvas, paper, acrylics, watercolour
and oil paints, he also utilised materials like bronze,
wood, cloth, and leather. In these works, one could
see his artistic vision translated into mixed media,
with the incorporation of signature motifs that were
often seen in his works on more traditional mediums.
As in the presented lot, his wood works reflected his
interest in Indian culture and varied dance forms. His
approach to woodcutting to create a distinct texture
and form involved a blend of traditional techniques
and his unique artistic vision. He employed
experimental methods in carving and printing to
achieve distinctive visual effects.
