A TSAR’S VILLAGE TREASURE CLOCK (ED: 19/30)
by Theo Fabergé, London
The amber-coloured glass clock was created to commemorate ‘Tsar’s Village’
outside St. Petersburg. The base features two Russian Imperial eagles and a
Romanov crown. The reverse depicts a replica of the Prussian coat of arms.
The clock face is surrounded by decoration inspired by the Amber Room in
Peterhof. The Amber Room was once dubbed ‘The Eighth Wonder Of The
World’ and had amber panels backed with gold leaf and mirrors. The highlight
of the clock lies in the figurine on top that depicts a uniformed Tsar Nicholas II
on horseback, executed in gold and silver.
Theo Fabergé, grandson to the renowned jeweller and goldsmith, Peter
Carl Fabergé, was a prodigy in the arts. His lifetime contract with The Saint
Petersburg Collection has led to exquisite works that are admired to this day.
